Michael Beale may revisit £2m Archie Brown Rangers move as Borna Barisic transfer news emerges

Rangers could let as many as four players go this summer if the club get acceptable bids for their services, with Borna Barisic said to be one of those names and Beale may revisit an exciting transfer replacement.

Journalist David McCarthy, via the Daily Record [Page 45] Ianis Hagi, Glen Kamara, Ben Davies and Borna Barisic as possible Ibrox exits this summer as the club looks to balance out their squad, stating that if the club get acceptable bids for them, “they’ll be off.”

Also, the Scottish Sun reported on 9 July that Beale has to sell three big-name players this summer if he is to further fund his Ibrox revolution this summer, with chairman John Bennett clearly putting his foot down to ensure the Gers manage to balance the books financially.

It’s been suggested by McCarthy that if the Croatian full-back doesn’t extend his current deal with the club, he could be up for sale as the club would rather make money from his sale than let him leave for free upon the expiry of his contract.

And should the Croatian leave this summer, and Rangers receive a healthy windfall for his services, Beale may well explore an attractive and vibrant defensive component to replace Barisic.

Scottish Daily Mail (back page and page 79) reported on 29 May that the Gers are interested in signing Lausanne defender Archie Brown.

The defender, who turns 21 in May enjoyed a thrilling campaign in the Swiss Challenge League last season, registering five goals and five assists from 33 appearances.

Brown has been a regular for Lausanne since his move from Derby County in 2021 and is heavily regarded as a “highly-rated” footballer considering his successful 2022/23 campaign.

“Up for grabs for a fee in excess of £2million this summer, FC Copenhagen have shown an interest along with clubs across Europe”, the Scottish Daily Mail (back page and page 79) writes.

It clearly looks as if Beale is heading in a totally different recruitment direction right now, with the long-term future at Ibrox firmly at the forefront of his mind, and the signing of Brown represents another astute business with the deals he already completed so far.

Rangers seem to be heavily proactive and resourceful in their approach right at this moment, seeing Dujon Sterling as a future replacement for Tavernier and now identifying Brown as Barisic’s potential successor – and the youngster has exerted his attacking class recently, scoring three goals and two assists in his last five Lausanne appearances.

The future of the Croatian international looks bleaker with every passing week at Ibrox and with no talks regarding a new deal planned, it’s imperative Beale and the Rangers chiefs start sorting out long-term replacements.

Brown may well be an unknown quantity to Rangers fans, but he could well prove before long, a burgeoning and flawless hidden gem under Beale’s expansive system.
