Kieran Dowell reveals what Todd Cantwell told him to sell Rangers move

Kieran Dowell revealed how Todd Cantwell was “raving” about Rangers and his enthusiasm helped sell a move to the club.

The attacking midfielder has joined the Gers on a free transfer after his contract at Norwich City, where he was a team-mate of Cantwell’s, expired.

As well as Cantwell, Dowell also knows John Lundstrom and Tom Lawrence, who have been helping him settle in.

Speaking about his conversation with Cantwell, Dowell said in quotes reported by Football Scotland: “He’s had an amazing start and when I first got in contact with the manager, I was straight on the phone to Todd.

“I was asking him how he’s found it so far and he was raving about it. He said it’s something different but it’s something that he’s really enjoyed. Just like the manager, Todd really sold it to me as well.”

Familiarity sure to help

It can always be difficult joining a new club, especially when it is in a new league and at a time when the pressure at Rangers is sure to be ramped up as Michael Beale goes about reshaping the squad.

Which is why it is so handy that Dowell, a creative midfielder, already has some familiar faces around him and he went on to say how he has already been for dinner with his pals, who have helped him to settle in.

Manager Beale has been busy freshening up his squad with no fewer than six signings through the door already and a strong likelihood that more are to follow.

While that is exciting for Gers fans, there is sure to be a bedding-in period needed to help so many new faces settle and Beale will be heartened by the fact his squad is already starting to bond ahead of a big campaign.
