Glen Kamara can finally seal long-awaited transfer away as Besiktas offer Rangers exit route

Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara could now be set to seal his long-awaited transfer away from Ibrox this summer, with Turkish side Besiktas offering him a potential exit route.

Kamara is reportedly the subject of a loan bid from Turkish side Besiktas [Fotospor, 5 July], who will play in the Europa League next season, as the Finnish midfielder finally seeks a way out of Ibrox having fallen out of favour with Michael Beale.

The 27-year-old even lost his starting slot in the Finland team for their Euro 2024 qualifier against Slovenia last month after manager Markku Kanerva explained he couldn’t start him because of his lack of game time with Rangers.

And according to the Daily Record newspaper [6 July], Turkish giants Besiktas are willing to offer him an escape route out of Ibrox this summer, but rather than sealing a permanent switch, they will look to approach the Gers with a loan offer.

“Rangers are set to offer forgotten midfielder Glen Kamara an escape route out of Ibrox.

“Finn Kamara seems certain to leave Rangers this summer after falling out of manager Michael Beale’s plans.

“Now reports in Turkey have indicated Besiktas will make an approach to sign the 27-year-old on loan rather than make a bid for Kamara. Boss Senol Gunes wants to see if Rangers can be persuaded to let him take Kamara on loan, with the player still having two years left on his contract.”

The Finnish midfielder was a favourite during Steven Gerrard’s time at the club and played a key part as they won the Scottish Premiership during the 2020/21 campaign, making 33 league appearances for the club, averaging 78.3 minutes per game, as well as playing ten times in the Europa League.

However, fast forward just under two years later and Kamara emerged as a bit-part player under both Giovanni Van Bronckhurst and Beale, making just 22 league appearances for Rangers with many of those appearances coming off the bench starting just one game since the club’s League Cup final loss against Celtic in February.

With Rangers currently undergoing a major rebuild right now, fresh off securing their sixth signing of the summer in Cyriel Dessers, Beale and the top brass at Ibrox are reportedly desperate to balance that out with several departures, and Kamara had emerged as one of the names at the top of the exodus list but with no reported suitors, talks about his exit seemed to have stalled.

However, the Finnish international can now look towards a new lease of life elsewhere with Besiktas potentially offering him an escape route which may be best for all parties involved.

The Turkish giants will be playing European football next season which Kamara would be delighted with so whether the Finland international leaves Ibrox to join Besiktas temporarily or permanently this summer, it seems likely either way that he will not be playing his football at Ibrox next season.

Good riddance on his part and the Rangers faithful.
