Talks take place as Rangers prepare Celtic Old Firm derby offer

Rangers have extended an “olive branch” to Celtic by preparing to offer them 700 tickets for the first Old Firm derby of the new season, according to The Scottish Sun.

The opening Scottish Premiership clash between the Gers and the Bhoys is scheduled to take place at Ibrox on 3 September.

And the newspaper notes that the former have made the first move as talks have taken place between Rangers and their fierce rivals.

“Rangers are ready to end Old Firm away fan lockouts by extending an olive branch to Celtic,” according to The Scottish Sun.

“SunSport can reveal the Light Blues are preparing to offer their Glasgow rivals 700 tickets for the first derby of the new season. The match is scheduled to take place at Ibrox on September 3, with Rangers making the first move in a bid to find a resolution to the ‘no away fans’ stand-off.

“Talks between both clubs have since taken place, with Rangers now in a position to offer Celtic 700 briefs. It’s understood that number can’t be increased due to the tickets already sold to home fans.”

Positive step

It’s not often that talks take place between these two fierce rivals, never mind positive ones, but that seems to be the case in Glasgow regarding the seating allocation for the first Old Firm derby of the new campaign.

The two clubs have been involved in a hugely competitive battle for as long as fans can remember, and that is certain to continue this season and of course long into the future.

But there is now some welcome news for supporters, with the travelling fans undoubtedly helping create a better atmosphere in these huge clashes.

That was definitely missed in the final two Old Firm matches of the most recent campaign, where away supporters were prohibited from attending due to safety fears.

This development will be welcomed by all supporters who like to tune into the big game, and it may just kickstart the journey to more away fans attending the clashes between the two Scottish giants.
