Rangers to announce best signing of summer within hours after Cyriel Dessers medical news

Rangers could be set to announce the arrival of striker Cyriel Dessers from Cremonense on Thursday.

Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel earlier this week (4 July, 23:00), journalist Euan Robertson reported that 6 July may be the day that the 28-year-old’s arrival at Ibrox is formalised.

Dessers scored six goals in 26 Serie A appearances last season as Cremonense were relegated, with one of those goals coming against Italian champions Napoli back in October.

He now looks set to be swapping Lombardy in Italy to Govan in Scotland with STV reporting on 3 July that the Nigeria international has already undergone a medical to join the Scottish Premiership side.

All that remains, it seems, is the official announcement to be made.

“I said earlier that I though it would be done today (4 July) so it’s an egg in face moment but you’ve got to sometimes admit your errors,” said Robertson on Rangers Review’s YouTube.

“I’m hearing it could be Thursday for Dessers.”

If Thursday is the day then the announcement should just be hours away.

However, if the deal is already signed, sealed and completed, there’s no real rush.

On Friday, Rangers’ squad jets out to Germany for a pre-season training camp.

Chris Jack reported on The Herald website on 30 June that the Gers’ base, which will be near Leipzig, will be closed off from the public and from the press.

Michael Beale and co, it seems, are trying to keep as much as they can under wraps.

Maybe they’ll want to keep the arrival of Dessers quiet for as long as possible too.

As said, it doesn’t really matter about the official announcement. All that’s good for is the fans, at the end of the day.

It remains to be seen how Dessers will fare in Scotland.

The Belgium-born striker has a decent goalscoring record in his career having previously impressed at Utrecht, Heracles and Feyenoord in the Eredivisie, scoring 36 times in 93 top-flight games in the Netherlands.

He’s also adept at netting goals in Europe too, having scored 10 times in 13 Conference League appearances in 21/22 when Feyenoord reached the final.

Dessers looks set to be Rangers’ best signing yet under Beale.
