New transfer Jack Butland thanks Rangers fans for ‘incredible support’ in first club interview

Jack Butland spoke to the Rangers official website on 5 July, discussing his arrival at the club, his reasons for joining, and his excitement to play at Ibrox, as he thanked the fans for their “incredible support”.

Butland is a new arrival at Ibrox, following the expiry of his Crystal Palace contract and after a loan spell at Manchester United, and admits there has been no shortage of support from the Rangers faithful, as the move has been exactly what he expected and more.

The England international keeper admitted joining Rangers wasn’t a difficult decision, and hopes he can help the club reach its expectation of being successful and winning trophies.

Speaking in his first official interview with Rangers, Butland stated: “Since the day I signed there has been no shortage of support and Rangers fans I didn’t know existed sort of came out of the woodwork, the support has been incredible.

“It wasn’t a difficult decision to make, an incredible club to join, the history and ultimately to be successful, that is this club’s goals every year, is to be successful and to win.”

Moving on to the topic of Champions League football, which the club will look to reach via the playoff rounds, the Englishman confessed: “It is massive European football, I have heard about the European nights at Ibrox, it goes without saying, it is an important part of the club, they have had some great moments over the years in Europe, and we are looking to continue that and we have got an opportunity to do that.”

Butland will be a success at Ibrox

Despite playing just 17 games in all competitions during his time at Crystal Palace, the English keeper is held in high regard by fans of his former club, as he delivered consistent performances whenever he was called upon – as well as saving a penalty in their game against rivals Brighton.

For a player who didn’t spend much time at a club to be held in high regard is always a good sign ahead of a move elsewhere, and with Butland, it’s no different.

From his quotes in this interview, it becomes obvious that Butland has been impressed by the club during his short period in Glasgow, and is showing a desire to be a part of the club’s ambition and targets ahead of the new season.

The ex-Palace man also commented that he will look to follow in the footsteps of legendary Gers goalkeepers Alan McGregor and Andy Goram, stating that he will continue the club’s rich history of goalkeepers through his actions on and off the pitch.
