Rangers unlikely to earn Calvin Bassey windfall after Brighton transfer news
Rangers are set to miss out on a potential transfer bonus from any Calvin Bassey deal, as their sell-on clause is only activated if Ajax sell for profit, according to the Scottish Daily Mail [4 July, page 60].
Former Rangers defender Bassey has been linked to a move to the Premier League this summer with Brighton interested, amid news that Gers would receive 10% of the deal if Ajax were to sell [Sky Sports, 20 July 2022], although it has now been shared that this clause only becomes active if Ajax sell their man for a profit, which “looks unlikely”.
Bassey joined Ajax from Rangers for £19million plus add-ons, in a deal that Brighton who were interested at the time were unwilling to match, but one year on it looks like they may still get their man, for a lower price than Ajax paid last summer.

No hard feelings.
Although it will be somewhat of a disappointment for Rangers to not make the most of a sell-on clause which, at the time, they’d have been confident of making some money from, they can’t be too disappointed with this one. The fee they received for Bassey initially was more than good enough without the bonus added.
In signing Bassey, Brighton would hope to be getting the version of a player who left Ibrox on a high and in the form of his life, after reaching the Europa League final, rather than the one who is now being cast out at Ajax after some inconsistent performances.

Bassey made 25 league appearances from a possible 34-game season with Ajax last time out, with five coming from the bench, and managed to score one goal and provide three assists from his predominant role as the left-sided centre-back in a back three, although he occasionally played at left-back.
In other Rangers news, a contract saga means Rangers could sign another striker after Dessers.
