Rangers close to signing Jose Cifuentes, personal terms ‘practically agreed’

Rangers are closing in on another summer signing with personal terms “practically agreed” with Jose Cifuentes, according to Adriano Savalli.

Michael Beale has been chasing the Ecuador international all summer, but the club are yet to agree a deal with LA FC as they loo for a cut-price move with his contract expiring in December of this year.

But with the clubs still in negotiation over a transfer that would see him move to Ibrox immediately, Rangers and Cifuentes have now all but agreed terms for his move with just some details missing for now.

“José Cifuentes, close to becoming a new Rangers player,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (4 July).

“The personal terms are practically agreed, apart from some details. Negotiations between the club and LAFC continue.”

Edging

Beale has so far managed to get the vast majority of the deals he wanted over the line, with pre-season only just beginning.

That’s obviously a very good sign ad he has managed to address all the problem positions with the arrivals of Jack Butland, Dujon Sterling, Kieran Dowell, Abdallah Sima, Sam Lammers and most recently Cyriel Dessers.

But midfield is an area that he also wants to strengthen with Scott Arfield leaving and Glen Kamara available for an exit too, and Cifuentes fits the bill perfectly.

A deal looks inevitable at this stage because of his contract status and his will to come to Europe, but Rangers know they can be patient about it with a lot of the summer to go.

The player will be fit whenever he arrives because he’s currently still playing regularly, but the precedent has been set with John Souttar and Nicolas Raskin. The club won’t overpay to get him in now when they can do it for free a few months down the line.

In other Rangers news, the club is set for a seven-figure windfall amid this £17.2m development.
