Rangers set to receive seven-figure transfer windfall as Malik Tillman edges closer to Premier League move

Rangers are set to receive £1million-plus as compensation alongside a transfer clause, with former loan star Malik Tillman set for a move to the Premier League, according to the Daily Record.

Tillman has gained interest from Premier League sides Brighton and Brentford who will battle it out for the American-German’s signature, while Michael Beale had been hoping to keep last season’s PFA Young Player of the Year at Ibrox next season. It has been revealed that Rangers will receive a percentage of a potential deal.

The report states that Bayern Munich have bought back Rangers’ option to buy Tillman, which was set at £5.8million, with the Glasgow club receiving £1million in compensation, as well as a percentage of any fee Bayern receive, which could be double the fee Rangers would’ve paid [The Sun, 2 July].

Rangers are getting the best out of a bad deal

Rangers fans would’ve been in the same boat as Beale with regard to Tillman’s future, with the loanee making a good impression at Ibrox during his year on loan, and the £5.8million it would’ve cost to keep him looked like the Gers transfer staff had negotiated a bargain deal.

However, with Bayern reserving the option to cancel the buy-out clause, Rangers have still managed to benefit alongside what will be a disappointing decision as the club are likely to receive money which can be reinvested into other targets, rather than missing out completely.

This report emerges after Tillman’s brother claimed the former loanee had really enjoyed his time in Glasgow, giving Gers fans some hope amidst the displeasure of the Bayern deal [The Scottish Sun, 28 June].

Cyriel Dessers is set to arrive at Ibrox in the coming days, while bids were reported to have been made for Feyenoord’s Danilo, so the Glasgow club are pushing ahead with their transfer plans despite the disappointment.

In other Rangers news, Michael Beale has personally added another player to Rangers’ wanted list.
