Rangers set for seven-figure windfall as Calvin Bassey close to Premier League transfer

Rangers could be set to earn a seven-figure windfall shortly as Calvin Bassey closes in on a £17.2m move to Brighton, according to Football Scotland.

The former Gers defender joined Ajax in a £20m deal last summer which included a 10% sell-on clause, meaning Rangers would receive a portion of any future sale amount should he leave.

And the Nigeria international now looks set to join Premier League side Brighton in a deal worth £17.2m according to Italian outlet Calciomercato (3 July), meaning Rangers are poised to bank £1.7m from the transfer.

Boost

Rangers are looking to sell players this summer to boost the financial situation at the club and help them to free up space in the squad as Beale looks to bolster the squad.

However it could be the sale of Bassey last year, when Beale was in London, that brings in a big chunk of cash to aid them the most.

Bassey was a terrific signing for us after joining under Steven Gerrard, but he really flourished under Giovanni van Bronckhorst before struggling with Ajax in Europe and the Champions League.

Rangers

A return to Ibrox would have been ideal because he is exactly what this team is missing defensively, however he’s now way out of our league financially despite arguably going backwards since leaving.

The money will be a help to Beale with more players expected to join, while Bassey has a chance to kickstart his career once again in a prospering team south of the border. Everyone is happy.
