Rangers could sign Josh Maja ‘soon’ after his contract at Bordeaux expired

Rangers could make a move for Josh Maja soon, after the striker turned down contract extensions at Bordeaux, letting it expire, and is now available for free, as per a report on Soccernet.ng.

Maja, who was the fourth-highest scorer in Ligue 2 last season, could join Rangers on a free following the expiry of his Bordeaux contract at the end of last season. Soccernet report that should Bordeaux have earned promotion, a one-year extension clause would’ve been activated, but the French side failed in their ambition.

Rangers have already completed deals for Abdallah Sima and Sam Lammers in attack this season, and are closing in on a deal to bring Cyriel Dessers to the club [Sven Claes], but still want to add to their forward options with Maja and Danilo both being targeted.

Maja would be a great deal on a free

To get a striker with the quality of Maja for free would be a brilliant deal for Rangers, and would add a different quality to their front line. Maja scored 16 goals and provided six assists across 37 games for his club last season, averaging a goal contribution every 1.68 games overall.

Bringing in Maja for free would allow Rangers to retain some of their budget to strengthen in other areas of the team, with the Glasgow side being linked to Nottingham Forest defender Jonathan Panzo, who Michael Beale is reportedly very keen on bringing to Ibrox.

Rangers are constantly linked to strikers at the moment in a desperate bid to improve their front line and provide depth for a very gruelling season, with this link to Maja following news that Danilo has told his club he wishes to move to Glasgow this summer.

Maja would be Gers’ seventh signing this summer, assuming Dessers is announced before he would arrive at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, the Glasgow side could move for a defender who Beale is a ‘big fan’ of.
