Graeme Souness set for ‘final summit’ Rangers talks over Ibrox return as James Bisgrove lines up role
Rangers plan to arrange a new job for Graeme Souness to make a return to the club after leaving Sky Sports, The Sun reports.
Ibrox CEO James Bisgrove held informal talks with the former player-manager a number of weeks ago and had mooted an ambassadorial role going forward.
Now Alan Nixon’s report in the Scottish Sun says that the club are “eager” to get the 70-year-old back involved in Glasgow, but that he would only make the “sensational” return if the role was “worthwhile and meaningful”.

While in his English Sun report Nixon goes as far as to say that Souness is now “closing in” on a new Rangers job, with a “final summit” of negotiations now on the cards to advance on the previous talks.
The long time Sky Sports pundit announced his departure from the broadcaster on 30 April after more than a decade.
Huge figure
Souness is the sort of figure who commands respect within football, not least Ibrox where he won three league titles and four league cups during his time as player and manager.
Michael Beale has become far more of an old-fashioned manager at the club since the departure of Ross Wilson among numerous changes within the hierarchy over recent months.
But the current Ibrox boss could surely benefit from his predecessor’s input if there is a role that makes sense for him.

And given how unpopular the board had grown within some sections of the fanbase since squandering the position of dominance after the 55th title win, a figure like Souness returning to the club under the new set up could be a unifying force.
Whether a role at the club would be advisory or carry any actual decision-making responsibilities remains to be seen.
He hasn’t been involved day to day at a top level club since leaving Newcastle as manager in 2006 but it looks like after years on the outside looking in he might be about to make a return in Glasgow.
In other Rangers news, a BBC pundit has doubts over the recent Light Blues transfer business and has named an SPFL standout as a possible proven addition.
