Rangers transfer news as 2021 twist emerges over Celtic star Jota
Rangers were reportedly handed the chance of signing attacker Jota before he eventually ended up joining Celtic in 2021.
According to Rangers Review journalist Jonny McFarlane, the deal was not progressed despite the Portuguese being offered to the Ibrox club.
He has since gone on to score 28 goals and provide 26 assists for the Hoops in 83 games.
Via Twitter, McFarlane wrote, “A good deal for the player given size of the wage on offer. Prior to the Celtic deal, I was told back in the summer of 2021 he was offered to Rangers but it wasn’t progressed.”
What could have been
Rangers’ recruitment team has been nigh on disappointing over the past few seasons and the squad really did not strengthen since Steven Gerrard won them the league.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst largely played the same players that were responsible for number 55 and that showed how Ross Wilson let down the club in the window.
Now, with Michael Beale coming in and a clearout this summer, this is going to be a new-look Gers side for the upcoming season.

However, having Jota on this team would’ve been unreal and would instantly make them a force to be reckoned with.
He would arguably be an upgrade on Ryan Kent and the fact that he can play well on the right as well would’ve given the manager the option of alternating his wingers.
That did not happen and he ended up winning trophies at Celtic Park and the club must not make such mistakes in the future.
In other Rangers news, the club have now received a breakthrough in their pursuit to complete another summer signing as a key target will not be signing an extension.
