Rangers still want Danilo transfer as Cyriel Dessers breakthrough arrives with deal agreed ‘in principle’ – Sky Sports

Rangers are still after Feyenoord striker Danilo despite finally agreeing a deal “in principle” to sign Cyriel Dessers, Sky Sports reports.

After negotiations with relegated Cremonese became bogged down, apparently due to the valuation of the Nigerian striker, a breakthrough was reached on Friday (30 June) as Fabrizio Romano reported a fee had been agreed.

Sky Sports advanced on that update to suggest a full agreement is now ready to go barring any late hitches, but the Light Blues are apparently not finished adding to the forward positions.

Rangers

Despite announcing the loan arrival of Abdallah Sima from Brighton on Thursday (29 June) and now closing in on Dessers in addition to the earlier signing of Sam Lammers from Sampdoria, Danilo remains a target.

The Brazilian was subject to an unsuccessful opening Rangers bid on Tuesday (27 June) with the Dutch club and the Gers thought to be far apart on a fee on the “exciting” 24-year-old according to Heart & Hand the same day, but the race continues.

Firepower

It was beginning to look like Michael Beale was going to be frustrated on a few of his forward targets, with Dessers going nowhere for a prolonged period, and the gap to a Danilo agreement looking sizeable.

The breakthrough with Cremonese for the 28-year-old therefore comes as somewhat of a surprise, but certainly a positive one.

And if the Light Blues are undeterred on Danilo in addition then perhaps the budget, which is the great mystery in the whole transfer window picture, has a way to stretch yet.

Rangers

Developments look to be speeding up again ready for the start of the preseason work as the players return from their holidays, and after the flurry of early activity had died down that is a welcome advance for the fanbase.

Sima’s arrival is already an exciting one, and Beale looks like he was intent on pushing for Dessers so if he can get that over the line then the plan is starting to come together in attack.

Still attempting to then splash out on Danilo would be a bonus, but if it is doable then Gers supporters will not be complaining.
