Rangers official partner moots ‘big spend’ as Cyriel Dessers fee now agreed

Rangers’ official partner has reacted after it was reported the club are closing in on a move for Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers.

According to The Guardian’s Fabrizio Romano, (via Twitter, 30 June) a fee has been agreed between the two sides and that a deal is imminent.

The Gers’ official partner, Four Lads Had A Dream, have since reacted to the news and insisted a “big spend” would have been needed to get a deal over the line.

“Dessers’ potential arrival certainly ramps up the summer incomings. He’s likely the big target and the big spend. Seems to me we are making extremely good progress,” they wrote (via Twitter, 30 June).

“Still, big work to do, in and out, but we are on the right lines, quietly confident in our work so far.”

Statement

A significant outlay on a 28-year-old forward is a bold move but we have to trust Beale’s judgement on this one. Feyenoord striker Danilo seemed like a longer-term option for the Gers to pursue.

Dessers is a physical present and that’s evidently what Beale was after. He wants a robust forward to come in and make an immediate difference. He needs to hit the ground running but there’s a chance of the Nigerian becoming a focal point for the upcoming season.

Rangers

This news will almost certainly condemn Antonio Colak to the exit door. The Croatian endured a tough first season in Scotland and produced some fairly abject performances. With Alfredo Morelos also departing there’s an urgent need for a proven forward to arrive.

There’s little room to complain when it comes to Rangers’ transfer business to date. The board have backed their man and problem areas have been dealt with.

Beale should be looking for defensive additions as his next priority before pre-season kicks into full swing.

In other Rangers news, the club have now received a breakthrough in their pursuit to complete another summer signing as a key target will not be signing an extension.
