Rangers in talks with one more player with Cyriel Dessers ‘poised’ to make Ibrox switch

Rangers are still working on a deal to bring Jose Cifuentes to Ibrox with Cyriel Dessers now “poised” to complete his transfer from Cremonese, according to The Herald.

It’s believed that talks with the soon-to-be Serie B side have continued and that both clubs are now on the verge of an agreement (The Herald, 30 June).

The Gers are still working on a deal for LAFC’s Cifuentes as Michael Beale seeks to strengthen his midfield ahead of the new season.

Rangers also saw a bid rejected for Feyenoord striker Danilo although it remains to be seen whether they will continue their pursuit of the 24-year-old.

Got his man

Dessers has long been Beale’s prime forward target.

It’s clear the Rangers boss wants a physical presence to spearhead his attack heading into the 2023/24 season.

This is a saga that has ebbed and flowed throughout the summer. At one point it seemed as if the 28-year-old’s move to Ibrox was completely off.

Reports in Italy had claimed that he had said no to moving to the UK. If there’s one thing to take out of this summer-long pursuit, it’s that Italian journalists can often jump the gun.

Looking ahead, defensive reinforcements have to be at the forefront of Beale’s thoughts. Ben Davies has been linked with a move away and Filip Helander has already departed the club.

Beale will be delighted with his early business. He’s added to problem areas and has done his business early, which was imperative.

Potentially looking to utilise the loan market could be an option for the board heading into the middle of the summer.
