Rangers drop interest in Feyenoord striker Danilo after agreeing fee for Cyriel Dessers
Rangers have dropped their interest in Feyenoord striker Danilo after agreeing a fee for Cremonese forward Cyriel Dessers, according to 1908.
Michael Beale had been keen to add a new striker to his squad after the arrivals of Abdallah Sima and Sam Lammers already, with a bid rejected for the Eredivise hitman when talks stalled for Dessers.
But after Fabrizio Romano reported that a deal was on the verge of completion for the Nigerian striker who was Beale’s prime target, Dutch outlet 1908 report that they now won’t be following up on their interest in the Brazilian.

“Rangers FC is complete with former Feyenoord striker Cyriel Dessers as new reinforcement for the vanguard,” they wrote (30 June).
“Fabrizio Romano reports this on Friday afternoon. The news means the Scots are dropping interest in overpriced striker Danilo.”
Shame
The signing of Dessers is obviously a very good thing for the club, because Beale made it obvious that he was the prime target and the marquee signing of the summer.
But as negotiations got tough and stalled with the Serie A side, the club had to make alternative plans and that saw Danilo emerge on the scene to become a target too.

Interest was clearly serious as a bid was made, but when it emerged that Feyenoord wanted far more than Rangers were willing to spend on him, Dessers became a more obvious signing.
Rangers need goals and while Antonio Colak and Kemar Roofe have proven records in front of goal, neither of their futures are assured at Ibrox which could have left space for both Dessers and Danilo to join.
It’s a shame Danilo won’t come now because it’s obvious he’s the better goalscorer of the two, but Beale knows what he wants and it’s now edging closer to being done.
In other Rangers news, Fabrizio Romano has dropped a huge update on the chase for the next summer signing.
