Update emerges on Rangers quest to sign Celtic target Benie Traore after £2.8m transfer bid

Rangers Review journalist Jonny McFarlane has issued an update on Celtic target and Hacken striker Benie Traore.

In his morning briefing on Thursday, he claimed that the 20-year-old Ivorian is way down the priority list at Ibrox and is also a Celtic target.

Sun journalist Alan Nixon wrote on his Patreon on 25 June that a £2.8million bid had been turned down for the forward.

McFarlane said at 14:30, “Yes there is interest [from Celtic as well] but Rangers see that as one that’ll be very far down the list. He will also be very expensive, based on what I’ve been told by people at the club.

“I don’t think you should expect to see Benie Traore at Ibrox any time soon.”

Move on

If he’s going to be too expensive then it does not make sense for Rangers to waste their time pursuing him.

They are working on other strike targets and should work on getting them through the door as they seem more attainable in the coming weeks.

With Sam Lammers having joined and Abdallah Sima close to a move to Ibrox, attacking reinforcements have been arranged for.

Rangers

What’s needed is someone who can lead the line and be the one scoring 15-20 league goals a season if they’re fit for the majority of matches.

It remains to be seen how much they’ll be willing to sanction for signing such a striker but it’s certainly not going to be a cheap acquisition.

Strikers are usually the most expensive players on the market and if they’re clinical and proven goal scorers then they will come at a premium.

In other Rangers news, the club have now received a breakthrough in their pursuit to complete another summer signing as a key target will not be signing an extension.
