Rangers want to ‘splash’ cash on Cyriel Dessers as transfer priority emerges

Michael Beale’s “priority” remains to “splash” a large part of his Rangers transfer budget on Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers, according to the Daily Record.

The Scottish Sun shared on 25 June that Rangers are becoming “increasingly” frustrated with the valuation of the 28-year-old, who netted six times in the 2022/23 season.

Mail+ also suggest (27 June) that talks have hit a “stalemate” in recent weeks, with the Nigerian currently valued at £6.5million.

Beale has also begun to assess other options, with the Gers seeing a lowball bid for Feyenoord striker Danilo knocked back (Daily Record, 28 June).

Look elsewhere

Beale’s obsession with Dessers needs to end.

Yes, he’s a target man, but six goals in the 2022/23 season mean he shouldn’t be valued at £6.5million.

Furthermore, with Cremonese proving a tough nut to crack, the board would be wise to look elsewhere. Danilo feels like the value-for-money move. The 24-year-old netted 14 times for Arne Slot’s title winners and would be a long-term addition.

If Dessers moved to Ibrox, he would give the club two or three years of good service before reaching the latter stages of his career.

Another striker definitely needs to arrive at Ibrox. Alfredo Morelos’ departure means there are some fairly big boots that need filling.

Sam Lammers has already arrived, but the 26-year-old Dutchman cannot be expected to shoulder all of the goalscoring burdens for Beale’s men.

The hunt for a second forward has dragged out slightly. A resolution would be welcome within the next couple of days.

In other Rangers news, one deal that has got bogged down looks set for a breakthrough this weekend.
