Rangers to pay £5m to sign Danilo as Feyenoord boot lowball bid out

Rangers’ lowball offer for Danilo was instantly “booted” out with Feyenoord slapping a price tag of £5million on the Brazilian, according to the Daily Record.

According to Mail+ on Tuesday 27 June, Arne Slot is happy to sell the 24-year-old forward during the summer window, despite netting 14 times in the 2022/23 season.

It’s believed the initial “undisclosed” bid for the striker was turned down. However, Danilo still remains high on Michael Beale’s list of attacking targets (Daily Record, 28 June).

Both clubs are still in discussions over a permanent switch to Ibrox (1908, 27 June).

Test the waters

This is common practice.

Rangers were never going to see their opening bid accepted by Feyenoord.

We’ve seen a similar tactic employed in the Declan Rice saga. Arsenal initially submitted a small bid, with the intention of increasing their offer in their second and third bids.

On paper, this seems like a smarter move than Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers. The Nigerian is older and scored fewer goals for a relegated side last season.

Danilo managed to hit the back of the net 14 times, as well as adding four assists for a team that won a domestic league. Furthermore, he’s still only 24 and could give the Gers at least six years and good service if he does make the move to Scotland.

Dessers would provide Beale with a target man, which is potentially why is still of interest, but at 28, it’s hard to envisage him making too much of a long-term impact.

Things are certainly hotting up on the striker front.

In other Rangers news, the club are now close to sealing another major signing after the announcement of Sam Lammers in their biggest acquisition of the summer window.
