Rangers transfer news: Mateusz Zukowski set to join Slask Wroclaw on season-long loan deal

Mateus Zukowski is set to leave Rangers on loan once again as Polish club Slask Wroclaw are getting closer to agreeing a deal, according to Interia Sport (26 June).

Zukowski was signed by Giovanni van Bronckhorst to become backup for James Tavernier in the first-team, but he failed to break through and moved to Lech Poznan on loan just a few months after his arrival.

He struggled there and made just three appearances and is now set to leave Ibrox again with Michael Beale willing to let him leave, with a deal close to being agreed for him to go on loan for the season.

“Mateusz Żukowski is close Slask Wroclaw,” journalist Sebastian Staszewski wrote on his personal Twitter account (26 June).

“Rangers FC right back could be loaned to Wrocław for a year. Negotiations are in progress, a final decision should be made within 1-2 days.

“In the previous season, the 21-year-old played in Lech Poznan.”

Poor

When Zukowski moved to Ibrox he was seen as an odd signing because nobody had ever heard of him and he had very limited first-team experience.

Even as a back-up option for Tavernier it was a long shot, and now that Beale has added Dujon Sterling to the squad plus the fact Adam Devine is part of the squad there is no need for Zukowski to be here.

Rangers

His level is clearly not high enough to make an impact at Ibrox but selling him will be tough, so a loan deal makes sense just in case he does have a random explosion to show his talent.

Rangers’ summer business has largely been focused on incomings at this point, but the club do need to clear the decks a little bit to make room.

Zukowski has no future at Rangers as it stands, so letting him go makes plenty of sense and fans won’t be losing too much sleep over it.

In other Rangers news, club’s £9m bid looks pointless as transfer update emerges on Beale target.
