Rangers transfer news as Cyriel Dessers still wanted after Abdallah Sima move

Rangers will still target a deal for Cyriel Dessers as they advance talks to bring in Brighton attacker Abdallah Sima on loan, according to Football Scotland.

Dessers may add to Gers’ list of signings with Sam Lammers arriving for a fee of £3million, while they look set to complete a loan deal for Brighton forward Abdallah Sima.

However, the move for Dessers is proving complicated due to differences over the striker’s price tag with his current club, Cremonese.

Getting these deals over the line early in the transfer window will allow them to have a full pre-season to adapt to the club, and allow manager Michael Beale to “mould them into the players he wants” ahead of the new season.

Rangers are making improvements up front following Alfredo Morelos’s departure, whose contract will expire after not signing a new deal at Ibrox.

Good strength in depth

Strength in depth is always a positive with tight fixture schedules and injuries often putting a dent in potential title challenges, so the signing of Dessers should be a welcome one at a fee of around £6.5million.

With the signing of Lammers already completed, and Sima looking set to arrive, it is clear Beale feels he needs to strengthen his forward options to mount more of a challenge than they gave Celtic last time out.

The forward scored just six goals and provided two assists in Serie A with Cremonese last season, and Rangers will be hoping he can improve these numbers in Scotland.

Rumours have linked both Antonio Colak and Kemar Roofe to moves away from Ibrox, following Morelos out of the club, so this deal would allow Rangers to replace the departing attackers for a low fee.

Either way, Beale will want to bolster his squad for a title push next season.
