Rangers submit bid for Feyenoord striker Danilo amid £5.6m development

Rangers have submitted a bid for Feyenoord’s Brazilian striker Danilo, according to Dutch media outlet, 1908.

According to Mail+ on 24 June, the Scottish giants had earmarked the 24-year-old forward as an alternative for Cyriel Dessers.

1908 now report on Tuesday 27 June that the Gers have submitted an offer and that they are in “concrete” negotiations over a permanent transfer.

Danilo is currently valued in the region of £5.6million and is contracted to Feyenoord until 2026.

Dessers’ alternative?

It makes sense to view Danilo as an alternative to Dessers. It appeared the Gers were close to landing the Nigerian striker, however, the deal has gone extremely quiet in recent weeks.

Now, it appears Michael Beale has moved on. Danilo registered 18 goals and assists during the 2022/23 season and was part of the Feyenoord side that won the league title under the stewardship of Arne Slot.

On paper, this would seem like an excellent addition for the Light Blues, but Feyenoord will try and dig their heels in when it comes to the 24-year-old. He’s still relatively young and is contracted for another three years. It would likely take a fairly significant bid to see him depart.

Rangers

Another forward is desperately required. Alfredo Morelos’ departure has left a gaping hole which needs filling fast. The Colombian endured a tough 2022/23 season but was still relatively prolific in front of goal. Sam Lammers has already arrived, but the 26-year-old cannot be expected to shoulder all of the responsibility.

The Gers’ transfer work has slowed down in recent weeks and it’s up to the board to ensure Beale can land all of his intended targets before the window shuts.

In other Rangers news, the club are now close to sealing another major signing after the announcement of Sam Lammers in their biggest acquisition of the summer window.
