Rangers kick off pricey Danilo transfer chase with ‘opening bid’ as Cyriel Dessers pursuit falters
Rangers have been unsuccessful with their “opening bid” to sign Danilo from Feyenoord, the Scottish Sun reports.
After being named by Mail Plus on 24 June as an “alternative” option for top targets Abdallah Sima who looks to be an imminent arrival at Ibrox, and Cyriel Dessers who doesn’t, the Gers have now kicked off the push to sign the Brazilian.
The 24-year-old is expected to “command a decent fee”, having only signed for the Eredivisie side last year from major rivals Ajax.

As such the first attempt from Rangers wasn’t deemed worthy and has been swiftly rejected, but the fact that it is termed an “opening” bid certainly suggests they will be back with another offer as they seek to continue strengthening in attack.
Alternative
Danilo’s record in the Dutch top flight makes him appear a very good option for the Light Blues if they could convince Feyenoord to part with him.
He’s moved in both of the past two summers which might actually a make third one in succession more likely, but after 14 goals in all competitions last year he clearly won’t be cheap.
His season at the Amsterdam Arena the campaign before last only saw him score twice in the league from fewer opportunities, but he did net six cup goals in just three appearances, having registered 17 Eredivisie strikes the year prior to that with Twente.

For Rangers to have moved on to him certainly suggests that the Dessers pursuit is struggling, so it may be that the club have accepted the Nigerian international is not going to be arriving this summer.
But with Sam Lammers already signed permanently, Sima looking likely any day, and Michael Beale moving onto new options already the movement in attack is still high.
There is time yet the manager to get plenty of business done, so if he is now ready to move onto alternatives in cases where pursuits have become bogged down it should be a positive, assuming he doesn’t run into the same issues there as well.
In other Rangers news, the club may have banked as much as £4million in a complicated set of transfer developments.
