Sam Lammers backed to find his best at Rangers after new transfer

Rangers striker Sam Lammers has been backed to find his best form in Glasgow, with his friend and former teammate Vincent Heilmann delivering a no-doubt verdict, as reported by the Rangers Review.

After his struggles in Italy and Germany, Lammers is holding out to find a home in Scotland, to allow him to blossom and bloom on the pitch. His close associate believes that is what will happen in the months ahead.

The Dutch striker has not fulfilled his potential following a fine breakthrough with PSV Eindhoven, which included a very productive loan spell at Heerenveen. After that, he chose to answer the call of Atalanta in September 2020, but his career has stalled in recent years.

Heilmann spoke with frustration as well as optimism on the path travelled by Lammers, who found his first season abroad with Atalanta to be tough. In 2021/22, he spent the season on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt and then endured two further spells farmed out last season, with Empoli and then Sampdoria.

“In Italy, living in another country and speaking a different language, you need the first year to adapt,” he said.

“It’s not easy to then go on loan to different clubs, especially if the team are playing to avoid relegation.

“Now, I have a lot of hope for Sam because he’ll have more stability at a good club, where he speaks the language perfectly.

“I’m convinced he’ll perform in Glasgow, I have no doubt about it.”

Opportunity knocks

The picture is clear. Lammers’ travels have not worked out for him, up to this point. He has effectively been banished by Atalanta after a slow start in Italy but their loss can be a major gain for Rangers.

Three loans haven’t worked out for him and now he needs stability. His happiness on and off the pitch is directly linked and now he has a great chance to progress.

At Ibrox, under Michael Beale, he will play in a ball-dominant team that fits his style, where he can make a significant impact.

He should be more than comfortable in the Scottish Premiership, he should be able to add numbers to his goals and assists immediately, with the added incentive of European football to show what he is capable of.

It has been a long time coming, but finally, it appears that opportunity knocks for the Dutchman who is primed to make up for lost time, in Glasgow.
