Rangers transfer news: Abdallah Sima set for Ibrox this week as ‘confident’ update emerges amid talks with Brighton

Rangers are “confident” that they can complete the signing of Abdallah Sima from Brighton “this week”, the Scottish Sun reports.

The Gers are in talks with the Seagulls over a loan move for the attacker, who spent last season with Angers in Ligue 1, as Michael Beale looks to increase his attacking options in the wake of Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos’ exits.

Amid growing discontent at Ibrox over the continued attempts to sign Cyriel Dessers from Cremonese the outlook appears decidedly more positive over Senegal international Sima.

The 22-year-old is subject of “ongoing” discussions with Brighton, for whom he is yet to play a game as he is not in Roberto de Zerbi’s plans at the Amex, and they appear to be going well with billionaire Tony Bloom’s Premier League [Times] high-flyers.

Therefore Rangers are looking to bring him to Ibrox within days to add to the £3.5million capture of Sam Lammers from Sampdoria.

Boost

Sima can play wide or through the middle, and while he may not be the man to make or break the Gers season he will certainly increase Beale’s options going forward.

Mail Plus (24 June) report that Sima and Dessers are the preferred targets for the Ibrox boss so the 22-year-old appears not to be a fall-back pursuit.

His career was somewhat derailed after his move to the Seagulls when a loan with Stoke was cut short by injury, but five league goals and two assists in 34 Ligue 1 appearances last term appear to have got him back on track.

He is still only two seasons removed from a stellar campaign with Slavia Prague where he came up against Beale as then-assistant to Steven Gerrard.

As a teenager Sima netted 20 goals in all competitions over the 2020/21 season while adding a further eight assists, so if he can be anything like as productive as that in Scotland he could be an excellent signing.

With Malik Tillman’s complicated but increasingly-lucrative looking permanent signing now ruled out there is plenty of output to replace on top of Kent and Morelos’, but if the next loan arrival of a promising young attacker is as successful at the last it will be a big boost to the manager.
