Keith Jackson shares Rangers transfer news with money ready to spend on new striker

Keith Jackson believes Rangers may have a few quid to spend on a new striker this summer and it will be a surprise to not see them splash it out on a permanent striker addition.

The Gers are desperately on the prowl for a forward this summer, following the departure of Alfredo Morelos on a free contract with his contract running out on 30 June.

While Rangers have been proactive in filling the void, signing Atalanta forward Sam Lammers, Beale is still hoping to further add to his firepower currently linked with the likes of Cyriel Dessers, Josh Maja and Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland.

And Jackson, writing in the Daily Record newspaper [26 June, page 47], believes it will be a surprise not to see Rangers spend the cash on a permanent new striker addition.

Desperately needed

Indeed, Rangers’ top priority this summer must be adding to their goalscoring firepower following the departure of Morelos, and there have been several names linked with the club already.

The signing of Lammers represents smart and sensible business by the Light Blues, but they would be foolish not to add to that with the signing of another striker – one possessing the capabilities to score goals at a consistent rate.

Rangers

The Gers still have Antonio Colak on the books but there are doubts about his capabilities in firing Rangers past Celtic next season, and there’s the likelihood that he won’t be a Rangers player when the season kicks off again in August.

Rangers have been targeting some promising names in Dessers and Maja but are they the kind of solutions to fire the Gers to the Scottish Premiership gong next season? Arguably not.

Another sensible, risk-free and smart addition would be Hearts forward Shankland who underwent a sensational campaign last season scoring 24 goals from 37 games. If he can hit those heights playing for Hearts, imagine what he could do playing with the likes of Fashion Sakala and Todd Cantwell every week.

Shankland deserves a swift upward trajectory in his career and he is certainly the type of striker capable of firing Beale’s men to the league title next season.
