Malik Tillman update emerges as Rangers trigger transfer clause and land possible £4m Bayern Munich payout

Rangers did trigger the permanent option to sign Malik Tillman from Bayern Munich and he could still return to Ibrox, according to Mail Plus.

Kicker had reported on 18 June that the German giants had decided to “cancel” the clause in the American’s loan move to Glasgow.

Rangers Review then reported on 20 June that the Gers were due a £1million compensation payment and a 10% cut of any transfer fee he generates this summer, with a second season in Glasgow seemingly ruled out.

But Mail Plus suggest there is an “outside chance” he does still make a second loan trip to Scotland despite the Bavarians hoping to sell him for more than the £5million agreed for a permanent Rangers move.

The latest report claims that rather than Bayern scrapping the option, they actually responded to the Light Blues triggering it by “instantly” exercising their buy-back, which Rangers Review had reported to be worth £9million.

Ranger are said to have landed a “seven-figure sum”, which is less specific than the £1million compensation and percentage of future sales previously reported, suggesting the club may have already made multiple times that.

Lucrative

The technicalities of the deal sound like they may have proven to be a very nice financial boost for Michael Beale this summer, even if the actual likelihood of Tillman coming back seems remote.

Both clauses in the previous agreement between the two clubs being triggered one after the other does sound slightly more logical than one side being allowed to simply cancel the agreed terms for a minimal fee.

So while the windfall of around £2million that it appeared to resulted in was a surprise positive from the disappointment of being unable to sign the 21-year-old, the possibility that it was more like double would be even better.

It would be a significant hit for a club with the current budget of the Light Blues to instantly spend £4million to re-sign your own player but for a giant the size of Bayern it may have been a worthy risk if they think they can then re-sell him for three or four times that.

With interest reported from the Premier League [Daily Mail, 12 June] that looks the most likely outcome now, and whether Rangers are due a cut of that or whether they have effectively already been well compensated it sounds like the outcome has been fruitful at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, the club have hit hurdles for unwanted Premier League players amid negotiations on two fronts.
