Rangers transfer news: Fabrizio Romano delivers ‘concrete’ Jonathan Panzo update amid talks

Jonathan Panzo completing a move to sign for Rangers this summer is a “concrete possibility” according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Light Blues have been reported as close to a deal for the Nottingham Forest defender for around a fortnight now since the Daily Record reported on 10 June that a £2.5million move was “edging closer”, but there has been little advancement on that since.

The 22-year-old is said to have had “positive dialogue” with Michael Beale and his youth links to the Ibrox boss at Chelsea, as well as former Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson’s presence at the City Ground, have been tipped to put the Gers at the front of the queue, before Romano has now suggested the transfer is still on.

The Guardian journalist told GIVEMESPORT: “Yeah, Rangers still want Jonathan Panzo. They are in conversation with the player side, so there is a concrete possibility.”

Moving slowly

Whenever a deal goes quiet for days on end fans start to get edgy as the momentum appears to have stalled, and after a fast start to the summer that appears to be the case on at least three Rangers pursuits.

In fairly quick succession Beale managed to wrap up the signings of Kieran Dowell, Dujon Sterling, Jack Butland after a bit of a delay, and then bought Sam Lammers.

News on Panzo slowed down as it has with midfielder Jose Cifuentes and striker Cyriel Dessers, but none can be ruled out yet.

The sooner the manager gets his new squad tied up the better as he will want as much time with them as possible through the preseason.

But every year teams end up pushing for the final deals on deadline day so there is theoretically a long time left to get everything done.

The extra cash that Malik Tillman is set to provide in not returning to Ibrox might help get a couple of moves over the line that were otherwise getting bogged down.

But it sounds like for now the chances of bringing Panzo in a fairly good, which might be all the Gers need at centre-back if Ben Davies is set to stay.

In other Rangers news, an update has emerged on another player at the same position who was reportedly subject to an approach from Ibrox.
