Rangers in Josh Maja Hunt as Bordeaux roadblock clears

Josh Maja will leave Bordeaux when his contract expires at the end of June as Rangers join the hunt for the former Sunderland man, according to Voetbalnieuws.

A clause was implemented in his contract allowing him to extend by a year if Bordeaux were promoted. After their final day match was abandoned, his exit became “complicated”.

However, it’s now believed the “excellent” striker will depart and that Rangers, Fulham, Anderlecht and Real Valladolid are interested (Voetbalnieuws, 23 June).

Rangers

Coup

Maja would be a real coup by Beale and the board if they could get a deal over the line.

The former Sunderland man scored goals for fun at the Stadium of Light and could well be looking to move back to England after a spell on the continent.

It was a strange move in the first place from the 24-year-old. There were plenty of interested parties in the UK. Moving to France has certainly been a step-down for the striker when realistically, he could’ve been operating for a Premier League club.

Considering he was happy to leave England and move to a lesser league, there’s no reason why he couldn’t be open to moving to Rangers.

Champions League football can be offered and there’s the prospect of being involved in the biggest derby fixture in world football. Sam Lammers has already arrived through the front door at Ibrox, but more attacking recruits are desperately required.

Alfredo Morelos’ departure has left a big hole to fill and it’s asking a lot of the former Atalanta striker to hit the ground running and replace the Colombian immediately.

In other Rangers news, one player has already agreed to join the club, with a bid now being submitted
