Rangers lowball bids over £5m away from Cyriel Dessers valuation as next signing lined up

Rangers have made multiple bids for Cyriel Dessers but are yet to reach an agreement with his club Cremonese, as reported by The Daily Record.

The newspaper has published a report online (21 June) claiming that despite relegation from the Serie A last season, Cremonese still wants more than the £6.5million fee they paid Genk for Dessers last summer.

Rangers have made multiple bids for the forward and are expected to go in again, however, won’t be rushed.

Although initial reports in Italy had suggested Dessers would turn down a switch to Ibrox, those reports are false, with the 28-year-old in fact keen on the move having been aware of the interest for some time.

He is now awaiting the Scottish giants to make another offer as he eyes the chance to play Champions League football.

Big-money

A £6.5million fee is a lot of money to pay for a player from Italy’s second tier.

However, a closer look at Dessers’ goal-scoring record throughout his career suggests that the centre-forward might be worth that fee.

During his time in the Eredivisie, the Nigerian international made 96 appearances for FC Utrecht and KRC Genk and scored on 36 occasions while also providing 10 assists.

Upon his switch to Italy last summer, Dessers scored six times and provided two assists in 26 league appearances which is not a bad return for a forward in a team which were eventually relegated.

He has been capped on four occasions by his country and scored once.

Even if the reported fee is slightly more than perhaps the player is worth, if Rangers can negotiate Cremonese to come down in their valuation they might be able to strike a deal which is worthwhile for both sides.

In other Rangers news, more summer signings have been predicted at Ibrox.
