Rangers favourite Scott Arfield salutes new club, MLS switch confirmed

Former Rangers favourite Scott Arfield has secured his future with a move to MLS side Charlotte FC, stating that he is “very excited to be here in the QC” as shared on the club’s Twitter account.

Arfield has signed a one-year deal, with the option of a further year, with the North Carolina-based club as he continues his career on the other side of the Atlantic, where his trademark salute will live on.

The 34-year-old former Canada international leaves Ibrox after 43 goals in 233 appearances, having joined the club at the outset of the Steven Gerrard era in 2018.

QC stands for Queen City as Charlotte is named after Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the queen consort of British King George III during the time of the city’s founding.

It is now home for Arfield, who will be aiming to make an impact in MLS and he is eager to get started, as shared by the club.

“Hello Guys, it’s Scott Arfield here. Very excited to be here in the QC,” he said.

“I cannot wait to play in front of everybody at the bank (Bank of America Stadium). Keep supporting the team, all the best.”

Best wishes

Arfield leaves Ibrox as a very popular player.

His impact, performances, attitude and application meant that he could be relied upon, time and again, through his five years at the club.

Of course, his form dropped in recent seasons but that was to be expected given his age and the stage of his career when there was always going to be a drop-off.

Many would have kept the former Burnley man for another year, Michael Beale included, but talks between the pair meant they decided it was in the best interests for both parties to go their separate ways.

In some ways, it is what Arfield deserves. He can play regular football in a less demanding environment and he also gets to enjoy a different lifestyle and culture.

His priority will be to be a success on the pitch and it will be interesting to follow how he progresses, with the best wishes of every Rangers fan behind him.
