Guillem Balague shares Rangers and Celtic finance view as he blasts back at Jamie Carragher on Twitter
Guillem Balague has shared a Rangers finance view in a discussion about transfers with former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher.
Balague hit back at Carragher after their debate about the power of the Premier League and the distribution of wealth.
The former noted that he would like to see an improved distribution of wealth so that the likes of Rangers and Celtic can compete in Europe.

“It’s not the Premier League, it’s football in general,” Carragher wrote on Twitter. “My debate with Guillem was about Real Madrid and Barcelona complaining about the Premier League having more money, when they’ve taken our players for years!! Bellingham has just gone there for over 100million.”
Balague responded: “No Jamie. The debate we had was about the power of the Premier League and distribution of wealth.
“It happens in the Premier League and I would like it to be the same in Europe so the likes of Celtic, Rangers, Brugge, Ajax can compete better. Cleverly you made it into Real and Barcelona getting money from the Premier League, which I didn’t mention once.
“So it became what you said I had said which I had not said! Lol. It was clever debating from you but not at all what I was defending.”
Big gap
Scottish football really is a long way behind the Premier League when it comes to finances, with the gap only going to get bigger and bigger as the years go on.
Unfortunately, that means clubs such as Rangers and Celtic will continue to find it very difficult to compete properly in Europe.
Any success they do have in the likes of the Champions League and Europa League really do deserve huge praise, because they are almost always competing with clubs who have much bigger budgets than they do.
It’s the same for the other clubs that Balague mentioned, with such sides having to watch on as the top Premier League teams and Barcelona and Real Madrid continue to spend huge amounts of money on new signings.
Of course a balanced distribution of wealth would make the sport much better for the smaller clubs, but the modern game seems very unlikely to move in that direction.
