Scottish media react to Rangers duo Ryan Jack and John Souttar in win v Georgia

The Scottish media reacted to the contributions of Rangers’ players Ryan Jack and John Souttar in Scotland’s excellent 2-0 win over Georgia on Monday night.

In farcical circumstances, with torrential rain leading to several delays lasting more than an hour and a half, play eventually resumed for Steve Clarke’s side to maintain their 100% record in Group A to keep them on track to qualify for Euro 2024.

Three different outlets provided approving assessments of the cameo roles played by the Ibrox men as they came on to the pitch at the 78-minute mark, replacing Callum McGregor and Kieran Tierney, respectively.

First of all, it was the Scottish Sun with their very brief, but positive, ratings.

“Ryan Jack – 3. Kept it simple. John Souttar – 3. Was solid.”

Then, Glasgow Live provided their verdict on the Rangers men: “Ryan Jack – 4. Did well to keep a tired midfield compact.

“John Souttar – 4. Kept Scotland in with the chance of a win.”

Finally, the Edinburgh News detailed their ratings of the pair: “Ryan Jack – 6. Got his foot in a couple of times as he came on to help shore up the lead.

“John Souttar – 6. Provided fresh legs in the back three.”

Nearly there

The feel-good factor reverberated around Hampden on an extraordinary night of football, as the current upturn continued for the Scots.

At the halfway stage they are flying high and nearly there in terms of qualifying for Euro 2024 in Germany next year.

From a Rangers perspective, it is good for the players to be involved in a high-level squad and hopefully to go all the way to the main tournament.

It was more of the same for Jack who doesn’t often start but he is a trusted backup for Scotland, whilst it was reassuring to see Souttar on the pitch after his injury issue last week, which kept him out of the game against Norway in Oslo.

The players will have their final downtime, before pre-season preparations commence at the end of next week, at Auchenhowie.

They both have plenty to play for in what will be a massive, defining season for Rangers.
