Rangers tipped to land significant profit on Jose Cifuentes deal

South American football expert and agent Simon Edwards has stated that the proposed move for Jose Cifuentes makes a lot of sense for Rangers as the club moves to finalise his transfer from Los Angeles FC, as featured on Heart and Hand podcast.

Cifuentes played for Ecuador in a 3-1 friendly win in Pennsylvania on Monday evening, US time. Now that his international commitments have finished, Rangers will be aiming to close a deal for his signature.

Edwards, based in Medellin, Colombia, is a writer and commentator on all things South American football as well as a director for International Sports Consulting.

Rangers

Heart and Hand’s Adam Thornton was in discussion with Edwards, in his ‘Scout Report’ feature on the midfielder, with a key comment below.

“If he had five years on his contract, you would be talking £4/5/6 million as a fair number (transfer fee) but again, it’s a case of seeing which clubs would pay that because he doesn’t have experience in Europe,” he said.

“So, I think this makes a lot of sense for Rangers because you’re getting a player, who in a year’s time, you can sell to the Premier League very easily, and get a lot more money than LAFC just because he would have that experience in Scotland.

“If he can do it in the US, he can do it in Scotland then there’s no reason why in a year, year and a half, he can’t go to the Premier League and 25, there’s still a big transfer there.”

Get it done

The more we hear, the more we like Cifuentes. That is in relation to the type of player that he is, what he could bring to the Rangers team immediately and now as outlined by Edwards, the significant potential to develop and profit.

That has to be the model that Ibrox chiefs follow, to establish a proper trading model as well as to maximise our chances of benefiting from such players who are on the cusp of a breakthrough at the top level.

That may or may not happen with Cifuentes but with his significant international experience, including game time at the World Cup, he is hardly a rookie.

Hopefully, he can thrive and prosper to go on a seal a massive move in the future, as that will represent mutual success, but firstly Rangers need to go and get it done.

It would be great to see the arrival of the Ecuadorian in Glasgow in time for the start of pre-season training next week.
