Walk the plank verdict springs to life as Michael Beale sack pressure rises at Rangers

There is no rivalry in the world like the Old Firm, and therefore it makes sense that the most sack pressure is likely on the managers at Rangers and Celtic.

Finishing second in any European league is likely accepted as a decent season, but in Scotland, that is seen as failure as you have lost out to your biggest rivals.

Going into his first full season in charge at Ibrox, Michael Beale will know that more than anyone and his early transfer overhaul has made that very clear.

A new twist has emerged in Glasgow though, with Celtic confirming the appointment of Brendan Rodgers, again.

Beale will be watching on, even if he won’t admit it, and Chris Jack has even shared that the news makes the job at Ibrox even harder after the carnage of losing Ange Postecoglou.

It also brings back to the surface the opinion of Kenneth Ward, who insisted that Beale may be forced to walk the plank if his Rangers side don’t start next season well enough.

This is, of course, not what everybody wants to see, but it brings to light the harsh reality of this job.

Celtic have just made Rodgers the highest-paid manager in their history, so the pressure on him will be even higher to make sure that his side doesn’t collapse.

Imagine if Rangers start the season on fire and win the first couple of Old Firm games too, the Northern Irishman will be wondering why he accepted the job in the first place.

Beale will have to imagine that on the other foot, with the pressure like no other in Govan, especially this summer and next season where there is a fresh start for everyone.

The plank is always only a few steps away when in charge of either Old Firm side, let’s hope we don’t see it at Ibrox.
