Rangers set for £2million windfall amid Malik Tillman transfer development

Rangers are set to receive at least £2million to not sign Malik Tillman after Bayern Munich cancelled the permanent option in his loan deal, Rangers Review reports.

The German giants loaned the American youngster to Ibrox for a successful campaign that saw him win the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

A clause in his deal allowed the Gers to sign him permanently for a £5.8million fee, according to Rangers Review, with the Bavarians then retaining a £9million buy-back clause after that.

However, Kicker reported over the weekend (18 June) that Bayern had decided to scrap the arrangement, even though a Rangers return remained on the table for Tillman.

But according to the latest update, the unilateral decision at the Allianz Arena will hand Rangers a £1million cancellation fee, plus 10% of the proceeds if Tillman is sold elsewhere this summer.

With “serious interest” in England and Germany, an exit fee is expected to reach at least £10million, meaning a minimum £2million total boost at Ibrox.

Ideal?

Perhaps Michael Beale would ultimately prefer to have Tillman available to him after his strong contribution under the Light Blues boss this season.

But given the permanent option was considered expensive for Rangers in light of a major overhaul that requires various other signings, this seems like a major bonus.

If Beale couldn’t have hoped to sign the 21-year-old anyway then millions in return for a player the club never had on a permanent basis amounts to money for nothing.

Tillman’s exploits in Scotland last season appear to have generated enough interest for him to move on this summer, and Thomas Tuchel doesn’t seem to have plans to keep him at Bayern.

So £1million immediately, and the potential to more than double that amount should he be sold during the window, would be a serious boost to Beale’s transfer plans elsewhere.

The complicated arrangement between the Gers, the German champions, and the talented attacking midfielder, looked like they were going to leave the club disappointed, but now they could be very happy with the outcome.

In other Rangers news, the search is underway for two behind-the-scenes Ibrox appointments but the club aren’t even involved.
