Cyriel Dessers makes Rangers transfer decision as Italy development emerges

Cyriel Dessers has declined the chance to move to Rangers after the Gers had reportedly closed in on a move for the Cremonese striker, according to CalcioMercato.

The 28-year-old was reportedly close to moving to Ibrox for a fee believed to be in the region of £5million including add-ons.

However, Calcio Mercato report on 20 June that the Nigerian striker has declined the chance to move to Scotland, with his preference believed to be remaining in Italy.

Huge blow

This will come as a huge blow to Michael Beale.

Dessers had emerged as one of his main transfer targets and it appeared the forward was eager to make the move to the UK.

However, the Gers boss needs players who are keen to move to the club. Dessers is at an age where he will want to be the main man – and after Sam Lammers’ arrival, there were probably no guarantees.

It’s now up to Beale to locate another forward. Lammers has already arrived, which is good news but with Antonio Colak potentially set to depart, more reinforcements are desperately required near the top end of the pitch.

Rangers

Alfredo Morelos’ exit coupled with Colak’s inconsistent form means Beale has to be active in the coming weeks.

He would have invested a lot of time and effort in moving for Dessers. It’s now up to the board to fall back onto another target that they would have lined up. Previously, Swansea City duo Joel Piroe and Morgan Whittaker were of interest.

It will be intriguing to see if Beale reignited his interest after this latest blow.
