Lyndon Dykes is not what Rangers need after latest transfer news from Ibrox
On Monday, it was claimed that Rangers want to sign Lyndon Dykes from QPR as reported by the Daily Mail, with the striker approaching the last 12 months of his deal at Loftus Road.
The club has been linked with an interest in the Scotland star, with Millwall and Burnley also said to be in contention to make a move for the Australian-born player this Summer. He captured headlines again at the weekend with his equaliser for Steve Clarke’s side in the 2-1 win over Norway.
Having worked with him at QPR, Michael Beale will know all about Dykes but where would he fit into Rangers squad plans for the upcoming season?

At present, Beale has Antonio Colak, Kemar Roofe and Sam Lammers, with Fashion Sakala considered primarily as a wide-forward, squad option.
Colak’s future is in doubt due to his own particular skillset, whilst doubts remain over Roofe’s condition, unfortunately.
Lammers will certainly feature but he’s more of a ’10’, linking the play and doing his work with his back to the goal, so with this in mind, Dykes would seem to be a strange fit.

Another striker will certainly arrive, with Cyriel Dessers strongly linked, but there is more of a case for Rangers needing an out-and-out goalscorer.
Someone who can run in behind and play on the last line, as well as having the ability to fulfil the hybrid role desired by the Gers boss, depending if he wants to play with two strikers as has been the case recently or with a more conventional three up front.
Dykes can certainly occupy defenders, he is physical and can run the channels but he just doesn’t appear to be the right fit for what we need, now. It just doesn’t add up.
