Injury Expert reacts to past surgeries as Rangers sign Jack Butland from Crystal Palace after Manchester United spell

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Rangers...

New Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland has been through some tough times at Crystal Palace and Manchester United, believes Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert has reacted to the news that he has been signed on a permanent basis from Palace after United opted against signing him permanently.

He has had multiple surgeries in the past due to issues with his ankle as well as his hand, but it seems like he has now overcome those concerns.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Ibrox News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said, “He had a stress fracture in his ankle that was extremely slow to heal, even after two surgeries to help expedite that healing.

However, he seems to be over that problem. That being said, just as he was starting to pick up some steam and confidence again, he broke his hand/finger this season which is obviously quite problematic for a goalkeeper, even more problematic in terms of playing time when there are two other very good goalkeepers on the team which is more likely to explain why he didn’t play.

Not all that worrisome overall for Rangers but something worth noting.

As his deal at Selhurst Park was running out at the end of June, Gers managed to secure his services for free.

With Allan McGregor leaving, the England international has been viewed as the man to step up and take over his role between the sticks.

Butland has not been the first choice for a number of seasons as he’s served as an understudy at Palace as well as United.

Still only 30, the goalkeeper could use his move to Ibrox as a way to play himself back into form and emerge as a contender once again for the Three Lions squad.

In other Rangers news, the club are now close to sealing another major signing after the announcement of Sam Lammers in their biggest acquisition of the summer window.
