Tom English shares new Rangers verdict on BBC after Brendan Rodgers to Celtic confirmed
Rangers are “way stronger” now than they were when Brendan Rodgers was first in the Celtic dugout, according to BBC Scotland journalist Tom English.
Northern Irishman Rodgers is now back at Celtic Park after being appointed as the club’s new manager, as confirmed by Celtic.
The boss returns to the Scottish club four years after leaving Glasgow to join Premier League side Leicester City, where he was sacked in April.
“Rodgers has re-joined the hothouse of Scottish football, and he will find it somewhat different to what he knew before,” English wrote for BBC Scotland. “Domestically, more challenging.
“He’s a terrific manager and is expected to add considerably to the club’s trophy haul, but it will not be so easy this time. Celtic fans knock great fun out of mocking their city rivals but Rangers are way stronger now than they were.”

Exciting battle ahead
Rangers and Celtic have been battling it out for the top honours in Scottish football for as long as fans can remember, and their rivalry looks set to continue in an exciting manner with the appointment of Rodgers.
He obviously knows the club and the league well, with his return really giving Michael Beale something to think about as the latter embarks on a title challenge with the Gers.
The Rangers boss will definitely be focusing on the fortunes of his own club, but he would be foolish to ignore the goings on across the city.
It is set to be a huge and pivotal campaign for both Beale and Rodgers, with the former needing to close the gap on Celtic, while the latter will very much want to maintain or even improve upon that gap.
It remains to be seen what will happen, but one certainty is that Rangers are stronger now, with the men in blue desperate to build on their good run under Beale last season.
