Rangers tipped raise up to £12million in transfer verdict at Ibrox

Rangers could raise between £10-12m on upcoming player sales as part of Michael Beale’s summer squad rebuild, according to Steven Clifford, speaking on the Rangers Review morning briefing [19 June].

The Four Lads Had A Dream writer was crunching over the numbers of what money could be brought in, in relation to how far the club could stretch for a transfer such as Utrecht’s Tasos Douvikas.

Sales at Ibrox are expected in the coming weeks, as has been clearly indicated by Beale who is intent on trimming his group of players ahead of the new campaign.

Rangers

On the question of what sort of fee would be acceptable for Ianis Hagi, Clifford responded with the following.

“Anything above £3m, with a sell-on. I would love to get in the region of £5m, but the same with Ben Davies, I would be taking anything above maybe £2-£2.5m,” he said.

“Kamara, if you can get £5m, you’d be laughing all the way to the bank. I think £3m and above for Glen Kamara.

“There’s money in the squad. I’d be looking for around £1m for Scott Wright, even if it’s half a million depending on appearances, etc. Jon McLaughlin, you’re looking at a minimal fee there. Borna (Barisic) if he was to go, you’re maybe looking at a million pounds or so. You’re still raising between £10 to 12million.”

Expendable

Six players, above, were mentioned in relation to leaving the club in the coming weeks.

The only one that there would be doubt on, would be Barisic due to needing competition for Ridvan Yilmaz at left-back.

All of the rest are expendable, with at least four expected to be sold, led by Kamara as the highest potential asset.

Beale and James Bisgrove will need to be ruthless and play hardball with the outgoing business that needs to be done in this transfer window, in order to maximise the pot for the required additions to strengthen the squad.

The comments from Clifford are in no way controversial, but perhaps the valuation of one or two players has been underestimated despite a poor season, last time around, for the Gers.

That would be reflected by looking at market values and the fees that other players are leaving Scottish clubs for, without the level and experience of those set to leave Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, a transfer recruit whom the club are thought to be leading the race for has been backed to be a success in Scotland.
