Rangers should move on quickly from Malik Tillman – 4 Lads

Malik Tillman isn’t interested in becoming a permanent Rangers player, according to Steven Clifford, speaking on the Rangers Review morning briefing [19 June].

The Four Lads Had A Dream writer was responding to developments in the ongoing saga, over the weekend, relating to the future of the German-born USA international.

It was suggested that Bayern Munich have kept the door open for a potential second loan switch, despite the initial permanent agreement worth £5.1 million being rejected by the German giants. Tillman is also reportedly gaining interest from Brighton and Brentford in the Premier League.

Rangers

The updates were chewed over by Derek Clark of the Rangers Review and Clifford, who offered the following.

“I don’t really think he wants to be a Rangers player,” he said.

“I don’t think Malik Tillman will be a Rangers player, I’m on record as saying that.

“I don’t really think he wants to be a Rangers player and I don’t want to get into a situation where we spend the summer chasing him, and being a third or fourth option (for Tillman).

“I would prefer if this isn’t going to happen that we move on quite quickly, I’m not sure that we actually need him, either.”

End of the matter

4 Lads is absolutely right to state that Rangers should move on as soon as possible.

If Tillman wanted to be a Rangers player, and it was likely, it would have been done by now. There is no point in letting this ongoing issue detract from the bigger picture.

The 21-year-old served the club well last season, making a very decent impression but things have run their course. He wants to play in another (stronger) league and with a couple of Premier League clubs said to be at the table, it is understandable from his perspective.

On the comment about not needing Tillman, Clifford referenced Sam Lammers, Ianis Hagi and Alex Lowry as contenders for the advanced midfielder role and then there is the presence of Todd Cantwell and even Kieran Dowell.

Michael Beale is well stacked for options in the role that the USMNT international operates in, and we should now be at the end of the matter.

In other Rangers news, a transfer recruit whom the club are thought to be leading the race for has been backed to be a success in Scotland.
