BBC pundit predicts next Rangers striker signing with multi-million deal already done
BBC Scotland pundit Kenny Miller has questioned the signing of Sam Lammers but called for fans to keep their faith in Michael Beale’s judgement.
Rangers officially announced the signing of Lammers from Serie A side Atalanta on Thursday (15 June), with the striker Dutchman a four-year contract.
However, there are question marks over how much of a hit the striker will be with Miller suggesting the club may yet need another striking option this summer.

“He has scored six goals in three seasons, which isn’t great. There’s no getting away from it. He hasn’t had a lot of starts but that’s also a concern. Why is that? Ultimately, when you’ve had 34 appearances in a season and scored two goals, it’s not good enough,” Miller wrote in the Daily Record (18 June).
“For me, if Lammers has been signed for more than £3million he should be starting for Rangers. But I also believe there will be another striker coming in. There’s no doubt it’s a priority position for the club. So maybe Lammers will have to fight for his place with one or two others.”
Although Miller has doubts himself, he has urged Rangers fans to trust the process and have belief in Beale to make the correct call.

“I understand Rangers fans’ doubts. I’m asking the same questions as they are,” Miller expressed.
“But I would urge them to have faith in Michael. If he feels Lammers can have a positive impact on this Rangers team, trust him.”
Time will tell
Miller is right to have his question marks around Lammers. The player does not have a prolific goalscoring record and joins Rangers with a big expectation on his shoulders to become the main man. However, Beale must have seen something in the player, otherwise, the club wouldn’t have paid the money.
Whatever that thing is Beale has seen, only time will tell and fans should give Lammers a chance to hit the ground running before passing too many judgements on their new striker. He may have struggled in some of Europe’s other leagues but might find that he takes well to Scottish football and finds his feet quickly.
Or, his goalscoring record will prove correct and he won’t be a success. However, whatever ends up happening, negative responses before he has even kicked a ball for the club won’t help.
Fans should get behind the player and see what he can bring to the Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, a new midfielder is expected to sign a deal with the club by the end of June.
