Rod Stewart fires Rangers jibe live on talkSPORT amid disappointing Celtic development

Rod Stewart has fired a Rangers jibe live on talkSPORT whilst discussing Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic departure.

The big Aussie made the move to Tottenham Hotspur at the start of June with Brendan Rodgers likely to return to Parkhead in his place.

Steward shared his disappointment with the Hoops’ former boss and revealed he used to send him a “crate of wine” every time they beat Rangers.

“I am a little bit disappointed with Ange because every time we beat Rangers I used to send him a crate of wine,” said Stewart (talkSPORT Breakfast, 15 June).

“I am going to ask for it back now.”

Anyone’s guess

It’s anyone’s guess as to who comes out on top next season.

The immediate hot take from the end of the 2022/23 season would be that Rangers are the side on the up and that Celtic are perhaps faltering slightly.

Postecoglou’s impending departure clearly played its part.

However, with Rodgers’ return now very close. There’s a chance the tide could turn back in Celtic’s favour. The former Leicester boss wouldn’t have returned unless he was going to be given significant promises from the board.

Rangers

He cannot fail. It will alienate the Parkhead fanbase and make Rodgers’ chances of landing another big job in England almost impossible.

That’s clearly why he’s made the decision to return. He’s looking to build his reputation once more before returning to another club down in England.

It will certainly be an intriguing Scottish Premiership. All eyes will now be firmly fixed on the East End of Glasgow to see what Celtic’s response is to Rangers’ active start to the summer.

In other Rangers news, the door is now open for the Gers to make a run at a third striker for nothing and things could “move fast”.
