Dutch football expert reacts as Rangers sign Sam Lammers in Thursday deal
A Dutch football expert has stated that Sam Lammers will do “a lot better than some Rangers fans think” after he sealed a transfer from Atalanta to Ibrox on Thursday.
Michael Bell, editor of Football Oranje delivered his verdict on the player who excelled at PSV Eindhoven and Heerenveen but failed to hit the heights in Italy’s Serie A, paving the way for his move to Rangers.
Now 26, Lammers will be striving to make up for lost time with a significant impact at Ibrox after signing a four-year deal with Michael Beale’s side.

On his Twitter account, Bell offered the following on the striker, who fits the hybrid style preferred by the Rangers boss, having watched him over the years in the Eredivisie.
“He will do a lot better than some Rangers fans think after looking at his recent goal record,” he said.
“There is a very talented player in there if he can stay injury free. Will do well in Scotland.”
Then when asked what Rangers should do, to get the best out of the striker on the pitch, he commented further.
“Likes to have the ball at his feet around the box. Very technical, and skilled on the ball. He linked play well at PSV.”

Key component
With the revelation that Lammers was the first player Beale met, several weeks ago as part of his rebuild plans, it indicates that the manager has earmarked the Dutchman to play a very prominent role in his new-look side.
He isn’t a striker who will typically run beyond the opposition defence or run the channels although he was tasked with working hard for a struggling Sampdoria side last season as they were relegated from Serie A.
Lammers is all about playing in tight spaces, linking play, twisting and turning around the box and beating his direct marker with his skill.
He will bring others into the play, make chances as well as being tasked with getting his fair share of goals, for himself.
With experience in the Eredivisie, Serie A and the Bundesliga, Lammers ability really isn’t in doubt but his goalscoring record and suitability for the challenge at Rangers will be put to the test in the coming months.
In other Rangers news, Dave King’s response to spurious takeover talk could lead to a fresh boardroom impact at Ibrox.
