Ally McCoist thrilled by Rangers transfer of Jack Butland live on talkSPORT amid two additions verdict

Ally McCoist has praised Rangers for the signing of goalkeeper Jack Butland but admitted that Michael Beale still needs two new centre-forwards this summer.

The Gers have been busy in the early stages of the transfer window, already snapping up Butland, Norwich City’s Kieran Dowell and Chelsea’s Dujon Sterling, as well as Atalanta forward Sam Lammers closing in on a move to Ibrox.

Speaking live on talkSPORT Breakfast [25 June, 9:56am], McCoist waxed lyrical about the signing of the nine-capped England international after the departure of the “fantastic” Allan McGregor, who played over 500 games across two spells for the club.

“Big window for us coming up,” he said.

“Morelos is away, Kent is away. The goalkeeper McGregor is away, who has been fantastic for us.

“We have signed Jack Butland, who I am happy about. I think it is a similar signing to you boys with Joe Hart, very similar.

“But I still think we need two centre-forwards at least.”

Changing of the guard

After a hugely disappointing campaign that failed to yield a trophy, change was desperately needed at Ibrox.

So far, Beale seems to be taking the task on to great effect in the early stages of his time as manager.

In the January transfer window, the Englishman managed to get deals for Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin over the line, followed by the ruthless call to allow the departures of five players who had all made a huge impact at the club.

McGregor left a huge void in between the sticks, which has now been filled with the transfer of Butland, while the impact of Alfredo Morelos’ exit could be dampened by the imminent arrival of Lammers.

Beale has got everything spot on since the close of last season, but there is still a long way to go.

Another centre-forward, as well as a winger to replace Kent, will definitely be on his shopping list, while a centre-back addition also wouldn’t go amiss.

In other Rangers news, a pundit has claimed that the Ibrox faithful will love this attacker at the club as Rangers are closing in on another signing.
