Wilson sends Rangers message to Brendan Rodgers after Celtic development on Sky Sports News

Brendan Rodgers could make a return to Celtic after leaving Parkhead in 2019, as reported by Sky Sports News on 13 June.

The ex-Leicester manager won seven out of seven trophies the last time he was in charge of the Hoops before leaving for the Premier League in 2019.

However, as a return reportedly edges closer, ex-Celtic full-back Mark Wilson has warned Rodgers that he won’t have it all his own way as he did during his last spell in Scotland when he consistently got the better of Rangers and his former captain Steven Gerrard.

Rangers

Speaking on Superscoreboard (13 June), Wilson said “Of course the Rangers team at the minute is better than what Brendan Rodgers faced. They probably will get stronger with some of the signings and what Michael Beale is doing, so it’s a big challenge, there is no doubt about it.”

However, the 39-year-old still showed his support for Rodgers, “You can’t diminish what Brendan Rodgers did when he first came to Glasgow I don’t think you can get a double Treble and set the team up for another Treble and not be a top manager.”

An old rival returning?

While nothing is yet confirmed, there is no doubt that the news of Rodgers potentially returning to Celtic will have caught the attention of the Rangers faithful.

Last time the 50-year-old managed in Scotland the Gers could not get the better of the former Liverpool boss and will hope that history does not repeat itself while also looking forward to the challenge.

Wilson is spot on, Rangers are an improved side now and are going big during this summer transfer window to make sure they are ready to compete with the Hoops after they beat them to the title last season. Rodgers’ potential arrival won’t make next season any easier and will only add fuel to the fire in Michael Beale’s stomach.

With a score to settle and the clubs improving, the Old Firm rivalry next season could be one for the ages and both sets of fans will be chomping at the bit to get going.

In other Rangers news, a takeover of the club may well be on the cards.
