Journalist: Liverpool gem Leighton Clarkson could arrive at Ibrox in Rangers transfer news

Michael Beale can bolster his first-team ranks at Rangers with the signing of Liverpool youngster Leighton Clarkson this summer, according to Dean Jones.

The Athletic reported on 7 June that the Reds would be willing to listen to offers for the 21-year-old academy graduate, who has made three senior appearances and enjoyed a thoroughly impressive loan spell at Aberdeen last season.

During his 38 appearances for the Dons, the midfielder scored six goals and contributed a further nine assists.

Speaking to GiveMeSport on the Gers possibly signing Clarkson, former Eurosport journalist Jones said: “I think he is a good fit for Michael Beale. He already knows all about his game and what he can add to his squad.

“I think Clarkson has had an interesting time with things recently, and he has probably gotten a taste of what life could be like if he was to look for a move whereby he is going to be in a big team more regularly.

“I think he is one that could be a potential arrival.”

Exciting prospect

Clarkson has proven his abilities while on loan at Aberdeen and looks ready to take the next step in his career away from Liverpool.

The 21-year-old joined the Red’s ranks as a young player and has risen the ranks successfully, showcasing his exceptional ability and impressing Jurgen Klopp enough to be awarded a few glimpses of first-team action.

During his time at Pittodire, he showcased maturity beyond his years and also looked to have an eye for goal.

This is a transfer that fits into the Beale playbook like a glove. Since arriving at Ibrox, the English manager has largely targeted younger players for his first-team squad, bringing in Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin in January and Dujon Sterling already this summer.

Aberdeen are likely to remain extremely interested in the academy graduate this summer, but the lure of football at Ibrox could prove too much if Rangers enter the race for his signature.

In other Rangers news, a pundit has claimed that the Ibrox faithful will love this attacker at the club as Rangers are closing in on another signing.
