Rangers transfer news as Chris Jack shares Sam Lammers latest

Chris Jack has told Stevie Clifford that he is “adamant” that Atalanta forward Sam Lammers will join Rangers this week as the next new arrival.

The 26-year-old Dutch attacker has spent the season on loan with Sampdoria and is one of three signings that are close to being confirmed at Ibrox, including Cyriel Dessers and Jose Cifuentes.

Lammers joined Atalanta in 2020 for a reported £7.7m but hasn’t been prolific during his time in Italy, but speaking on The Rangers Review, Clifford has faith that Michael Beale will be able to bring the best out of the forward.

Speaking on Monday, he said: “I spoke to Chris Jack on Friday evening, and he seemed quite adamant that Lammers was the closest of all three and he expects that one to be done this week.

“He said he’s a very technical player who plays in the hole behind the front man and will link things up. He had a really good time before he moved and hasn’t hit the same heights since, and he’s been on loan a lot.

“I can’t say I know a lot about him, this is one where we’re going to have to just trust the manager when it comes to it.”

Rangers

Trust.

It’s no secret that Rangers are in need of goals, last season they scored 21 fewer than Champions Celtic, while defensively they only conceded four more.

But Italian football is by no means the most prolific across Europe, a quick glance at the top scorers list in Serie A shows that only three players managed more than 15 goals this campaign.

You don’t have to look much further than Rangers’ own history, across his spells with Fiorentina and AC Milan, Brian Laudrup only managed six goals while playing for two of the better teams in Serie A, before lighting up Ibrox.

Furthermore, Beale has already managed to get the best out of players who have looked like lost causes before coming under his tuition, with Todd Cantwell managing to breathe new life into his stalled career.

Having been ineffective in the first half of the season for Norwich, Beale managed to coach the 25-year-old to two goals and four assists in 11 games, showing he’s more than capable of reigniting a player’s career.

In other Rangers news, there is confidence that another incoming Ibrox deal is completed “very soon” after personal terms were agreed.
